Anna’s PACE story from Elizabethtown
When you talk to Anna Case, you quickly learn she loves people. She spent her career in hospitality, greeting guests and chatting with coworkers behind the front desk of a hotel. After years living in Florida, Wyoming, and Colorado, she eventually came home to Kentucky and settled in Elizabethtown for retirement.
Life slowed down, and most days were quiet. “You get up, and you watch television, you read, or you crochet or sit out on the porch and gab,” Anna said with a smile. “If you want to live in your pajamas all day, you could.” But on a fixed income, even with what she called “real good insurance,” copays made it hard to stay on top of doctor visits and medications.
Discovering PACE
Everything changed when Anna learned about Care Guide Partners PACE and decided to enroll in December 2024.
“What stood out to me was that there are no copays, and my medicines are delivered right to my door in little packages,” she said. “I never have to wonder if I missed one.”
PACE also helps with meals, glasses, dental care, and household items. “Those things really add up when you’re on a fixed income,” she explained.
Care That Comes to You
At the Elizabethtown PACE Center, Anna sees her primary doctor, Dr. Borders, and is referred to specialists when needed. A dentist visits monthly, and her glasses are covered through the program.
Transportation is one of her favorite parts. “They come to your door, pick you up, and bring you back home when you’re done,” she said. “The drivers are kind, and they make you feel like you’re special.”
PACE also provides in-home support every two weeks to help with cleaning, and at the PACE Center she can take a shower or have laundry done if needed. “It’s those little things that make a difference,” she said.
Meals are delivered through Mom’s Meals, offering a variety of nutritious, ready-to-heat options — including heart-healthy and diabetic-friendly menus. “They have lots of good stuff to pick from,” Anna added.
Staying Active and Connected
Before joining PACE, Anna spent most of her time at home. Today, she rarely misses her scheduled days at the PACE Center. “There’s always something going on — crafts, bingo, crochet, even pizza parties,” she said.
She helped start a knitting and crochet class, often joins in painting projects, and brings her sense of humor everywhere she goes. She’s even shared her beloved turtle collection as prizes during bingo. “PACE gets you out of the house, and you meet people. I’ve worked with people all my life, and I love talking with everyone here.”
Why Anna Calls PACE “Awesome”
Asked to describe PACE in one word, Anna didn’t hesitate: “Awesome. It helps financially, it keeps you active, and most of all, it makes you feel like you’re not alone.”
For her, the program is about more than healthcare — it’s about belonging. “They take care of your health, they provide for your needs, and they make you feel like you’re part of something,” she said.
