Jimmy Heath Shares How Care Guide Partners PACE Changed His Life

Meet Jimmy Heath (pictured), a participant at Care Guide Partners PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) in Elizabethtown. Since joining PACE in July 2024, Jimmy has found a place that fits his lifestyle, bringing joy, new friendships, and exciting activities into his daily life. At PACE, he thrives in a community that caters to his personal interests and supports his health needs.

At the PACE Center, Jimmy enjoys the camaraderie of fellow participants and staff, and he’s an active member of the daily activities. Whether it’s playing cards, doing puzzles, or drawing, Jimmy is always engaged. His favorite game? Rook, a card game he’s mastered with an impressive winning streak! “I’m the best at Rook,” Jimmy shared proudly. “I’ve never lost!”

One of the things Jimmy enjoys most about PACE is the opportunity to socialize and participate in fun, enriching activities. “I like the people here,” he said. “I get to talk, play cards, and have a good time.”

For Jimmy, who lives with his sister, Sheila, life before PACE was different. Sheila would take him to church activities and doctor appointments, but Jimmy often found himself with a lot of free time. Now that he’s part of PACE, he enjoys a much more active lifestyle outside of the house. “I like it here more than at home,” he said. “There’s always something to do. I’m having fun.”

PACE also helps Jimmy stay healthy. He takes advantage of the PACE Center’s exercise room, where he rides a stationary bike and participates in the walking club. He’s even introduced a regular exercise routine at home, including push-ups and jogging. “It keeps me young,” he shared with a smile.

The transportation PACE provides has made a significant difference for Jimmy’s family as well. He no longer has to rely on his sister to get him to appointments. The PACE van picks him up at home, and he’s always excited for the ride. “I like the bus,” he said. When asked about his driver, he added, “I really like the people here. I make everyone laugh, and we just have fun together… it feels good to be here.”

In addition to all the activities, Jimmy also enjoys the meals and coffee provided at the PACE Center. He’s made lasting friendships and is quick to tell others about the program. “I tell people at church about it,” he said. “They’d love it here. There’s so much to do and so many people to meet.”

For Jimmy, PACE isn’t just a place to get care — it’s a place to thrive, have fun, and make lasting memories. When asked what he would tell someone considering PACE, Jimmy’s answer is simple: “Come over here. There’s fun, there’s people to talk to, and you can do whatever you want. It’s a great place.”
